On a Roll

(This episode partially written by Regina!)

The work of a baby is never done. One of this week's jobs was rolling over, front to back. Joey has yet to accomplish the elusive back to front flip, but is striving for it with determination, especially if there's a stuffed hippo just out of reach. His second task was to form an opinion of food other than milk. After about two teaspoons of mashed banana, all he has decided is that the proposition needs further study before he comes out for or against it. Some carrot stick sucking was also attempted by the youngster, with similar results. Thirdly, Joey has been struggling to deal with the impending arrival of teeth. We have, therefore, been struggling to deal with Joey.

In between all this business, Joe still finds time for leisure, and has just invented an enthralling game. The play goes as follows:

  1. Pick up an object
  2. Shake it vigorously
  3. Throw it down
  4. Repeat

He wins if he can complete step two without bashing himself in the head with whatever object he has chosen. On Tuesday he was playing this game in the vicinity of several of the babies born to the couples in our birth preperation class. It was feared that his throw would be too strong for them and he would end up smacking one of his peers with a little wooden jingly toy, so play had to be stopped. He throws equally well with right and left hands; we're hoping he'll be a switch-hitter.

(Apologies to those hoping for Joey audio. I (Sean) am still working on that.)
